It began with the sandwich – a simple product at the centre of a rapidly developing new market. As that market grew, so did the challenges facing the businesses making, supplying and selling food on the move.
What started as the British Sandwich Association became a recognised voice for an industry. Along the way, its work expanded into food safety and technical standards, government representation, industry guidance, events, awards and the many issues that affect businesses every day.
The industry kept changing too. Sandwiches were joined by wraps, salads, sushi, bakery, hot food, snacks and complete meals. Traditional boundaries between manufacturers, suppliers, retailers and foodservice became increasingly blurred.
The Association evolved with them.
This is the story of how an organisation created to represent Britain's sandwich industry grew into the Food to Go Association.
